Music and dance are an very important subjects for all children to learn.
Folk music education is important because it allows children to develop their history knowledge. For example, lyric analysis and songwriting allow students to work on their reading abilities.
Dance is important because it is more than the exploring of different ways to make a shape or learning a series of steps to music; it is a way of moving that uses the body as an instrument of expression and communication.
In our school besides getting good quality education we take dance and folk music classes each week with our regular lessons. During that classes we learn Armenian traditional dances and songs. Sometimes we dance and sing different types of song because we don’t want to do the same thing all the time. I love those classes because I get to know what Armenians did in mountains when there were no cellphones. Besides that when you meet someone who is not Armenian you can easily speak with them about your country’s culture being sure that you will not say anything wrong.
